I have a number of students on my caseload who struggle with understanding "social thinking", including expected/unexpected behaviors. Yesterday, I used David Gets in Trouble by David Shannon. Not only are the books delightful award winners, it gave my first graders a fun way to to practice recognizing these expected and unexpected behaviors. Of course with David, they are usually unexpected!
After each page, we would "vote" on if we thought the behavior was expected/unexpected using our new popsicle sticks. The kids loved it!
I used our Ellison cutter and a little tacky glue for our sticks. So cute!
